Ottawa Water Study/Action Group letter of support

As part of a campaign to encourage Ottawa City Council to stop supporting the bottled water industry, the Ottawa Water Study/Action Group (OWSAG) has developed a support letter containing the following statements and demands that can be signed by OTTAWA RESIDENTS.

Text in letter:

The present trend in the consumption of drinking water in throw-away plastic bottles is bad for several reasons because it:

- Is a waste of the scarce natural resources needed to manufacture the plastic bottles
- Harms the environment through excessive litter by the empty bottles, scarcely recycled
- Provides water that is not as carefully regulated as municipal tap water, despite misleading advertising to the contrary by the bottled water industry
- Is always sold at a much higher price than city water - up to one thousand times more expensive!

The Ottawa Water Study Action Group (OWSAG) therefore asks City Council to:

- Stop purchasing and distributing bottled water in City-owned buildings and official functions;
- Encourage the use of public drinking fountains in the City Hall buildings and elsewhere, where water fountains have been removed, develop a plan to reinstate them; and
- Encourage municipal tap water use by all means possible.

Please take a moment to enter ALL required fields below (Ottawa City Councillors reviewing the letter need your address), once you submit the letter your name will be added to the list of Ottawa citizens that support this message. The signed support letters will be presented to the City of Ottawa Environmental Committee.
